About the Lynn Fire Department

The approximately 200 members of the Lynn Fire Department (Local 739 IAFF) protect an area of 11.5 square miles and a population of about 90,000 residents. The city features residential, wooded, commercial and industrial areas, including the GE Jet Engine Plant. The Chief of Department, James Carritte (C-1), Deputy Chief, Dennis Carmody (C-2), and Fire Prevention have offices at headquarters, 725 Western Av. There are currently 6 active engine companies, three active ladder companies, and 1 ALS Ambulance (Medic 1) running from six active stations.

Lynn's dispatch system features Enhanced 911 capabilities, as well as a Gamewell Fire Alarm box system. Normal street box assignment is one engine and one ladder, except between 0000-0600 hrs., when the assignment is two engines and one ladder and the corresponding District Chief. Telephone alarms receive three engines, one ladder, and the Division Chief. EMS calls dispatch the nearest engine or ladder, and ambulance (BLS service provided by Action, Atlantic/Caltaldo, and AMR Ambulance, all private companies), while auto accident calls receive the nearest engine and ambulance. Most members are EMT's, some are paramedics, and all apparatus are equipped with auto defibrillators.

The department responds to over 18,000 incidents annually.
